In this article, I explain how walk-around magic and interactive stage shows fit the two main event rooms at VUE on 50. This venue has two main rooms on the 50th Floor that are rented for events, the “Vista Room” and the “Observatory Room.”
(Note: There are also smaller rooms on the 51st Floor that are not explored in this article.)
The Vista Room is larger than the Observatory Room. It has enough space to fit 200+ attendees. For a magician & mentalist, this room is much better to roam and approach one small group at a time. It would clash if the walk-around magic was scheduled directly during a main sit-down dinner, but it fits perfectly into segments before a dinner, after a dinner, during a reception, and during a cocktail hours. At full capacity, this format of magic (close-up/walk-around) can last for two full hours, and possible longer.
Events that makes sense are either large-scale private parties like bar mitzvahs, bat mitzvahs, and weddings, or mid-size corporate and fundraising events like mid-size product launches and non-profit fundraisers.
A/V consideration: I have seen images on projection screens in this room and the colors pop. If you are planning a corporate event and need a projector screen that’s visually impressive, it may be worth speaking with Vue on 50.
The observatory room is smaller than the Vista Room, but it’s not dramatically smaller. For a magician & mentalist, this room works for both formats (stage show and walk-around). In my experience, a regional sales meetings often has about 80-160 employees. If you exclude the mezzanine, this room’s capacity maxes out at exactly 160 people. It’s also a match for the typical size of a company holiday party, which often has a similar guest count to a regional sales meeting.
It’s called the observatory room for a reason. There are windows in the Observatory Room you can look out of and see Logan Circle, the Comcast Technology Center, and other impressive “cityscape” structures.
Note: If you have under 50 guests, the group show is almost certainly a better fit than scheduling the magic during a cocktail hour or reception. Also, for this group size, you may want to consider a room on the 51st Floor instead of the main two rooms described in this article.
